I’m Hanna Thomas Uose, a writer and a strategist for the progressive movement. Here I share what I’ve been thinking about (mainly how to make a new world and how we are with each other while we do it). Every quarter, I also send a list of things I’ve enjoyed. Take what you like and leave the rest.
Hello,
Last week, I was very happy to release this new report into the world – The Aligned Organisation: A Brown Paper.
I have wanted to write this for years now, and finally at the beginning of the year I blocked out some time and Hoda Baraka and I downloaded everything we have learned from the past five years of helping mission-driven organisations find alignment with our consultancy, Align.
I hope this framework is useful for all sorts - from grassroots groups to big NGOs. In a nutshell what we think is this: there are seven crucial elements to creating an aligned organisation.
Mindful individuals
Strong relationships
Clear mission, vision and values
Coherent identity
Role clarity
Sufficient infrastructure
Political analysis
I think if a group can manage that, they are unstoppable, and a new world of possibility awaits. I hope this brown paper is a useful contribution at this moment in time, when so many of us are trying to organise and work in what feels like impossible conditions.
Putting this out into the world with love and solidarity. Please share with anyone you think might be interested!
Hanna
P.S. This is not the only thing I have published recently! You can totally still buy my debut novel Who Wants to Live Forever. In fact, I urge you to! I have been quieter on that front these last few weeks, but there’s more to come…over and out.
